Linux System Administrator (Kubernetes/VMware) | Space & European Programmes


Join our client’s international team in Rome (Anagnina Area), supporting system and infrastructure operations within programmes linked to European institutions and the space and defence sectors. The organisation operates in highly structured and mission-critical environments, delivering services and operational support across complex international projects. The company is a long-standing partner of space institutions, delivering solutions for Earth Observation, scientific data platforms, and operational digital environments.
We are looking for highly motivated System Administrator Operator with 2-4 years of experience in system/infrastructure administration, with strong skills in Linux (RedHat-based distributions) and automation/DevOps, and hands-on exposure to Kubernetes and/or VMware environments.

Please note that candidates based far from the Rome area will need to relocate in order to meet onsite requirements.

A B1/B2 level of English is required to work effectively in an international and multicultural environment.


YOUR TASKS
In this role, you will support the installation, administration, and operation of complex IT environments, with a focus on virtualisation and cloud platforms. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing installation, administration, and management of operating systems and configuring hardware/software on servers (software releases, upgrades, patching, troubleshooting).
  • Administering and operating VMware virtual environments (creating/configuring VMs, tuning, ESXi configuration and troubleshooting, patching).
  • Administering and operating OpenStack cloud environments (creating/configuring VMs, tuning, patching, troubleshooting).
  • Administering and operating Kubernetes environments.
  • Planning and performing systems management procedures, including documentation, inventory assessment, and related operational activities.
  • Performing monitoring of operated/administered environments and tracking systems and applications performance.
  • Making recommendations related to system security, performance, and resource utilisation (disk and other components).
  • Testing and implementing technical solutions and providing strong operational support on virtualisation architectures.
  • Working with the team to automate management tasks, streamline processes, and perform standard administration functions as needed.
  • Conducting software/hardware evaluations, providing technical analysis, and implementing systems to meet customer IT goals.
  • Reporting status and flagging issues in a proactive manner.
  • Participating in the On-Call service.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Mandatory
  • Good knowledge of Linux (RedHat-based distributions, e.g. CentOS, Red Hat) installation, administration, and tuning.
  • Independent knowledge of Linux automation/DevOps (e.g. scripting, Ansible, Python).
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and/or VMware virtual environments.
Assets
  • Knowledge of VMware automation (e.g. scripting for reporting and deployments).
  • Knowledge of OpenStack infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and related management/administration tools.
  • Knowledge of backup/restore techniques/solutions.
  • Knowledge of High Availability installation/administration and tuning.
  • Knowledge of network management, firewall, and security.
  • Knowledge of databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL).
  • Relevant certifications in the mentioned technologies are a strong asset.
  • Good understanding of ITIL practices and processes.
Minimum requirements
  • At least a secondary school diploma.
  • 2-4 years of proven experience in system/infrastructure administration.
  • Experience in data centres, complex IT environments, and/or setting up virtual environments on physical and cloud platforms is an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral command of English (B1/B2).
  • Ability to integrate into an international/multicultural environment, rapid self-starting capability, and experience in team working are mandatory.
  • Ability to achieve schedules and milestones.
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Work mode: Hybrid work may be possible, depending on operational needs and team organisation

On-call: Participation in On-Call service is required
